Arts / Project to republish classic local literature gains steam with crowdfunder

A CROWDFUNDING campaign for a project to republish “lost classics” from Shetland literature has raised over £2,700 in less than a week.

Northus Shetland Classics’ first publication will be Tang, the 1898 novel from J J Haldane Burgess.

A £15 donation to the crowdfunder will secure a pre-publication copy of Tang.

The driving force behind the project is Shetland writer Robert Alan Jamieson and publisher Mike Walmer.

More titles are set to be published through the initiative, which is described as a “community-driven project to republish some of the lost classics of Shetland’s literature, creating a handsome library of reprinted texts with new introductions by scholars in the field”.
