Emergency services / No-one injured in hatchery fire
FIREFIGHTERS from Lerwick and Scalloway were called to a fire at Grieg Seafood’s hatchery at Girlsta on Wednesday afternoon.
The company said emergency services were called immediately and were able to quickly extinguish the fire.
All employees at the site were reported to be safe and well.
Managing director Grant Cumming said an investigation into what caused the fire would get underway.
“The most important thing is that no employees got hurt and that the fire is extinguished. We will now assess the damages and investigate all aspects of this incident to find out what has happened,” he said.
Two appliances from Lerwick and one from Scalloway were called at 3.18pm. They used one hose reel jet and dry powder to tackle the fire. The incident was reported to be over by quarter to five.
