Letters / Guiding people through dark times
I am delighted to hear that Shetland News are promoting positive and happy stories of the community pulling together during this extremely challenging COVID19 situation.
As an artist I am very happy to stay home and spend my time being creative. I have spent weeks working from home, and using my free time painting, drawing and coming up with new creative ideas.
However, after a number of weeks I realised that many people were really struggling with the new stay at home situation. People seem to be very bored or feel very isolated and are struggling to find activities to fill each day.
I decided that I would like to do something creative for the community and bring joy to others.
I have spent the last week creating a couple of colouring in activities, and a ‘paint by numbers’ project, which were inspired by my croft house artwork.
Since posting these activities on my Facebook page I have been overwhelmed by positive messages of thanks from people saying how much they have enjoyed completing the activities.
I have received images of completed work and requests for more! I have had nearly 1,000 downloads from my website in two days.
Sometimes it is the simplest gestures that help to guide people through dark times.
