Community / Foodbank fundraiser takes in over £6,000
OVER £6,000 has been raised for the Shetland Foodbank thanks to a creative-themed charity campaign.
The fundraising efforts saw two ‘buskathons’ held through Facebook Live videos in recent weeks, with performances from local talent spanning the likes of music, storytelling and cooking.
The total amount raised for the Lerwick foodbank now sits at £6,180.
Shetland Foodbank’s David Grieve said: “I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to all of those involved and who donated to the charity.”
Organiser Jack Sandison said he launched the campaign after reading about how the foodbank was struggling to cope during the coronavirus crisis.
It has had to rely on volunteers to keep the premises open after some staff had to self-isolate.
The foodbank, which is part of the nationwide Trussell Trust network, is located on St Magnus Street.
A fundraising page, meanwhile, is also open for a temporary foodbank in Brae.
It is organised by the Brae Gospel Hall, which has been holding drop-in events in recent weeks.
