Community / Isles’ most popular baby names revealed

JACK and Amelia were the most popular baby names in Shetland in 2019.

New figures revealed that four boys were registered in the isles as Jack during the year, while four girls were called Amelia.

In joint second on the boys’ names list is Bobby, Fraser, Hunter and Theo – all of which were used three times each in 2019.

Emily was the second favourite girl name, being used in Shetland three times.

Names given to only one or two babies are not shown in the regional lists.

Nationally, Jack and Olivia were the most popular names for babies registered in Scotland in 2019.

Jack has been the most popular boys’ name for 12 years in a row, while Olivia has topped the list for four years.

The top 100 baby names in 2019 in Scotland were released today (Tuesday), as well as their regional break-downs, while the full list of names registered in the country will be published in mid-March.
