Court / Ban for drink driver
A WOMAN who drove with three times the permitted alcohol level in her system was banned from driving for 16 months and fined £500 at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Wednesday.
Laura Saunders, 36, of Chromate Lane in Lerwick, admitted the offence which took place 7 August.
Police who were concerned about her driving stopped Saunders on Holmsgarth Road and breathalysed her after smelling alcohol.
She was found to have 69 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath when the legal limit is 22. A further procedure at the police station confirmed the reading.
Defence agent Tommy Allan said that Saunders had been going through a particularly difficult time and appreciated that she would be disqualified from driving.
Sheriff Philip Mann reduced her driving ban from two years in light of her early plea and said she could reduce that again to one year if she undertook the drink driving rehabilitation course.
