Arts / Cinema funding should see more films shown across isles
SHETLAND Arts has been awarded nearly £100,000 in funding to improve its cinema facilities at Mareel and buy portable screening equipment for showing films around the isles.
The money has come from Screen Scotland’s cinema equipment fund, which has paid out £420,000 to 12 community projects across the country.
It is hoped that the portable equipment will enable Shetland Arts to host high quality screenings of films in community halls, schools and care homes.
Shetland Arts chief executive Graeme Howell said: “This funding is a fantastic opportunity to build on our current community arts programme.
“Having portable film screening equipment will allow us to bring high-quality film screenings to remote and rural locations, enabling greater access to the arts and contributing to our mission to educate, promote, support and develop the practice and enjoyment of the arts by all.”
