PRINCESS Anne made a visit to Fair Isle on Tuesday to receive tours of the island’s two lighthouses.

The Princess Royal is understood to have flown in by helicopter with officials of the Northern Lighthouse Board in a private visit.

She has been the patron of the Northern Lighthouse Board, which is responsible for the management of all lights, buoys and beacons within Scottish and Isle of Man waters, since 1993.

Her visit comes just days before Prince Charles makes a public trip to Shetland on Saturday.

Princess Anne, meanwhile, isn’t the only famous face to have visited Fair Isle recently.

Noted novelist Margaret Atwood – who has written the likes of The Handmaid’s Tale– is understood to have visited off a Canadian cruise ship a few weeks ago with her partner Graeme Gibson.
