Court / Remanded in custody
A WOMAN has been remanded in custody after appearing at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Friday.
Clair Syme, whose address was given as no fixed abode, appeared from custody to plead not guilty to a charge of shouting, swearing and making sexual remarks on various occasions at Main Street in Scalloway and Lerwick Police Station on Thursday (11 April).
Procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie sought to remand the 44-year-old in custody.
He said that since she had no connection to Shetland she would be unlikely to attend court if released.
Representing herself, Syme said she had previously been based in London and had travelled north in search of a new life and eventual employment.
She said she would be staying in Shetland and would attend court if bailed.
Sheriff Ian Cruickshank told Syme, however, that he had “no confidence you will abide by bail conditions” before remanding her in custody ahead of her next court appearance on 24 April.
