Court / Jail for man who failed to pay fines and compensation
A MAN who failed to pay fines and compensation for offences committed more than a year ago was imprisoned for 45 days at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Wednesday.
Colin Robertson, 38, of Hoofields, Lerwick, had been fined £650 and ordered to pay £905 in compensation to his ex-partner last January after admitting making abusive phone calls and texts to her.
The court heard on Wednesday that Robertson, who appeared from custody, had paid little of the money despite having had a year to do so.
Defence agent Tommy Allan said that Robertson blamed his chaotic life for the failure to organise payment, though the couple had been back living together for a while after the offence.
Sheriff Ian Cruickshank revoked the fines and ordered the spell of imprisonment instead.
Robertson is to appear at the court again for sentencing on 13 February after admitting behaving in a threatening or abusive manner at Upper Hillside, Gulberwick, on 3 January while on bail.
