News / Police arrest man on firearms allegations
POLICE arrested a 31-year-old man in Scalloway on Monday morning in an “intelligence led” operation sparked by alleged firearms offences.
A number of local officers and “specialist resources” searched a property in Meadowfield Crescent following an investigation.
The incident, which was said by a Police Scotland spokesman to be of short duration, nonetheless drew considerable interest locally and on social media.
The man is currently in police custody and is said to have been sought in relation to a number of other alleged offences.
Inspector Martyn Brill said: “We are grateful to the local community in Scalloway for their understanding and patience while this operation was carried out.
“This was a contained incident with no risk to the wider public.”
