WORDPLAY was host to one of Scotland’s most promising new writers, Malachy Tallack, who returned home to Shetland to deliver a travel writing workshop on Saturday morning at the Shetland Library and a public talk in Mareel in the evening to introduce his book Valley at the Centre of the World to a local audience. Alex Purbrick spoke to him about his latest book.
A SERIES of events in Shetland to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War are under way in Lerwick, writes Alex Garrick-Wright.
SHETLAND is fortunate to have a relatively high employment rate compared to other rural areas of Scotland.  However, there are people living in the isles who face barriers to employment arising from struggles with mental health, a criminal conviction, substance misuse and long term unemployment.
