A YOUNG Shetland football player has taken the first hurdle towards becoming a professional player after signing for the youth team of Scottish Premiership side St Johnstone.

Thirteen year old Finn Regan will now be travelling regularly between the isles and Perth to participate in training sessions and weekend games.

The Anderson High School pupil, who plays locally for Lerwick Rangers, has been described as “an exciting young player” by St Johnstone’s head of youth development Alistair Stevenson.

Finn was discovered during a football camp and he was asked to attend a tournament, where he managed to hit the back of the net.
