News / No plea on ten charges

A MAN from Skerries faced ten charges – including failing to stop his car at the request of the police on two consecutive days – when he appeared from custody at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Wednesday.

Gary Blance, of West Isle, made no plea on all of the charges and had his case continued to 26 September.

The 42-year-old was accused of failing to stop his car when required to do so by police in uniform on various roads in Lerwick and the A970 towards Scalloway on 10 September.

He was also charged with failing to stop for police at the B9071 at Vidlin and an unclassified road towards Hamnavoe, Lunnaness on 11 September.

Blance was accused of repeatedly pushing away two police constables at Hamnavoe, Lunnaness on the same day.

He also faced charges of driving a vehicle with no insurance and no test certificate, as well as driving at Lochside in Lerwick without full view of the road and traffic due to steamed up windows.

Blance’s final charge was failing to provide information at Lerwick Police Station on 11 September about driver identity.

Honorary sheriff Malcolm Bell agreed to release Blance from custody on bail with standard conditions.
