News / Youth club memories to feature in exhibition
PEOPLE are being invited to share any old photos they may have of their time spent in Shetland youth clubs for a new exhibition.
The display will run from 5-11 November at the Islesburgh Community Centre in Lerwick to celebrate the Year of Young People.
Young people will select which images will go in the exhibition, while they will also work alongside staff from Shetland Museum & Archives to create a historical image archive.
Shetland Islands Council’s education and families committee chairman George Smith said: “For many people in Shetland, youth clubs were a huge part of their upbringing and are fondly remembered.
“As this is the Year of Young People, we’d love to celebrate the field of youth work in Shetland by asking the public to share any youth club photos with us, from any setting, and also including voluntary clubs and uniformed organisations.”
Photos can be submitted electronically on the local Facebook page Youth Work Through the Decades or by providing hard copies of photos to Shetland Islands Council’s youth services team at the Islesburgh Community Centre.
