THE COASTGUARD is issuing navigation warnings after a shellfish boat collided with an unidentified object east of Whalsay on Tuesday.
A spokesman for the Maritime and Coastguard Agency said on Wednesday that the 8.5m long shellfish boat Wexfordian 3 reported the collision with the submerged object at 2.15pm. He did not know what it was and no damage was done to the vessel.
The MCA spokesman said that a local navigation warning would continue to be issued and urged mariners to navigate with caution and report any sitings of the hazard. The collision happened two miles west of the Rumble.
