News / Sumburgh-bound plane shuts down engine after bird strike
A SUMBURGH-bound Eastern Airways plane was forced to return to Aberdeen Airport on Wednesday morning after the pilot shut down one of its engines following a bird strike.
The Jetstream 41 aircraft, which had 17 passengers and three crew on board, raised the alarm shortly after taking off.
It later landed safely at Aberdeen at around 10.45am, with engineers inspecting the aircraft.
An Eastern Airways spokesperson said: “Shortly after departing from Aberdeen for Sumburgh, charter flight EZE1035 returned to Aberdeen due to a warning indication relating to one of the aircraft’s two engines.
“As a precautionary measure, the captain decided to shut down the affected engine following a bird strike.
“We apologise to passengers for the inconvenience, but the safety of our passengers and crew is our number one priority.”
The plane was being used for the oil and gas industry.
