News / Open day raises over £8,000
THIS year’s Lerwick lifeboat open day raised over £8,000 for the RNLI.
The volunteer crew were on hand to show visitors around the Michael and Jane Vernon during the open day earlier this month in Lerwick.
NorthLink Ferries held a round Bressay trip, while the Sumburgh based coastguard rescue helicopter and the lifeboat followed the Hjaltland and undertook a wiching exercise.
The coastguard and fire and rescue service also had displays at Victoria Pier.
Lerwick lifeboat operations Manager Malcolm Craigie said the team were “grateful” for the success of the day.
“We’d particularly like to thank the Lerwick Ladies Lifeboat Guild for their hard work before, during and after the event,” he said.
“Thanks to NorthLink Ferries for their support in organising the Round Bressay trip again and for their donation to our funds from the ticket sales. Thanks also to Lerwick Port Authority for allowing us to use the pier, and to Northwards Ltd for supplying a trailer and helping with transport.”
“The funds raised will help to train and equip our volunteer lifeboat crews who are always on call to help save lives at sea.”
