News / Overdue yacht traced
THE SUMBURGH based coastguard helicopter and the Lerwick lifeboat were called out on Friday morning to look for an overdue yacht off Shetland.
The coastguard and lifeboat started its search on the east of Shetland near Skerries before coastguard rescue teams from Mid Yell, Lerwick and Hillswick got involved.
The Cariberia, which had two crew members on board and was thought to have been taking part in the Round Britain and Ireland Yacht Race, was later traced safe and well heading into Lerwick.
It was located by the helicopter some 25 nautical miles north east of Lerwick.
