News / Laft exhibition at Gremista
THE LATEST exhibition at the Shetland Textile Museum at the Böd o’ Gremista in Lerwick opened this week.
Entitled Fae da Laft (From the Attic), it features treasured items from local residents, which might have been languishing unseen in the attic, or in a drawer, for a while.
On display is a selection of knitting belts varying in age from 100 years old to the present day and a beautiful knitted lace wedding dress. There’s a mini-skirted suit from the 60s, which now counts as old.
There are double gauntlets used by a motorbike rider in the 1930s. There are some interesting first attempts by spinners and a variety of Fair Isle and lace garments of all ages plus photographs.
Fae da Laft will run for the next four weeks. In addition, the public can also see displays focussing on many of the items in the museum’s collection of over 600 pieces – Fair Isle, lace knitting and weaving, as well as a small exhibition of items made with different types of wool.
Entry costs £3.00, or £5.00 for a season ticket.
