News / Norwegian crew say thanks to lifeboat with donation
THE AITH lifeboat has received a donation of £5,000 from the crew of a fish carrier it assisted earlier this year.
Captain Marius Joensen handed over the money last week as way of saying thank you after the lifeboat crew helped the Norwegian registered vessel in February.
The lifeboat was tasked just after 5am on Saturday 24 February after the 40-metre vessel suffered propulsion problems and began drifting around five nautical miles north east of Foula.
In rough conditions the lifeboat towed the Migdale to Aith, where it awaited collection from a tug.
Captain Joenson said he was very grateful for the help from the volunteer crew and added that the outcome on that day could have been much worse if it wasn’t for the help of the lifeboat.
Engineer John Robertson thanked Joensen for the donation and said the lifeboat crew was just doing its job – saving lives at sea.
