News / New GP for Bixter
NHS Shetland’s recent recruitment pushes are “starting to bear fruit” after a new GP was secured for Bixter.
Director of community health and social care Simon Bokor-Ingram told a meeting of the health board on Tuesday that “we’ve had interest in most of the posts that we have put out”.
NHS Shetland has also been advertising for GP jobs in Lerwick, Yell, Unst and Walls while it has been forced into shelling out on temporary locum cover.
“We’re starting to see the tide turning a little bit,” Bokor-Ingram added. “It’s looking more positive.”
The new Bixter GP is due to start later this year.
Among the efforts made by NHS Shetland to recruit has been attending events on the mainland to speak to doctors who may be interested in working in an area like Shetland.
