News / Any young politicians out there?
NOMINATIONS are now open for young people keen to be elected as one of Shetland’s two members of the Scottish Youth Parliament (MSYP).
The by-election has become necessary after Charlie Haddon stepped down recently to concentrate on his studies.
Charlie, from Weisdale, was elected in March 2017 along with Sonny Thomason to represent Shetland at the Scottish Youth Parliament for a two-year period from June 2017.
Young people between the ages of 14 and 25 interested in a political career can complete the electronic nomination form at: www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/SYPShetlandElection2018/.
SIC convener Malcolm Bell said: “We appreciate the work that Charlie has done and I’m sorry to see him step down.
“In recent years, our MSYPs have done a great job representing young people in Shetland. I’d encourage anyone interested to consider standing at the forthcoming by-election.”
Nominations close at 5pm on 30 April and elections will be held electronically between 4 and 8 June.
