News / Three-year ban for drink driving

A MAN from Lerwick who took to the wheel while nearly four times the alcohol limit has been banned from driving for three years.

Andrew Eunson, of Lovers Loan, was also fined £600 when he appeared at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Thursday.

The 51 year old admitted driving on the A970 in Sandwick on 12 March last year with 80 microgrammes of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 22 microgrammes.

The court heard that Eunson had previously been disqualified for drink driving in 2014.

Defence agent Martin Morrow said his client had “expressed remorse” following the latest offence. He said the garage worker was under a “great deal of stress” at the time due to an illness in the family.

Sheriff Ian Cruickshank said Eunson’s previous drink driving conviction “gives a different starting point” for sentencing. The three-year ban, which was the minimum sentence available, can be reduced if Eunson completes a drink driving rehab course.
