News / Da Voar Redd Up returns

THIS YEAR’s Da Voar Redd Up will take place in late April. The annual clean up, which is now in its 31st year, will be held on 28 and 29 April.

Last year over 4,350 volunteers participated in the event, with nearly 60 tonnes of rubbish cleaned up from Shetland’s beaches, coastline and roadsides.

Shetland Amenity Trust’s environmental improvement project officer Sita Goudie said: “Now in its 31st year, Da Voar Redd Up has so far removed over 1,800 tonnes of bruck from our environment.

“We look forward to welcoming back existing groups, as well as new volunteers, to this year’s event. It is these volunteers who make the Redd Up the success it is and show just how committed Shetland is to caring for the environment.

“What is achieved through Da Voar Redd Up is incredible.”

Groups which participated last year should receive registration forms soon, but the amenity trust is reminding them to register so it can record where Redd Ups are taking place.

Those who have not taken part in the event before or individuals who would like to join a group in their area are asked to contact the trust or visit here. www.shetlandamenity.org/da-voar-redd-up

This year’s Redd Up will be joined by Da Muckle Shetland Gadderie on 16 June, which aims to clean up the isles’ entire road network in one day.
