News / Twins ‘not a good influence on each other’
TWO TWINS who teamed together to assault a man in Lerwick have been ordered to undertake unpaid work.
Lee Hamilton, of Grieveship West, Stromness, and Drew Hamilton, of Hoofields, Lerwick were each given 80 hours of unpaid work when they appeared at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Thursday.
The 22 year olds admitted assaulting a man at an address in Hoofields on 28 October and butting him on the head, jumping on him and repeatedly punching him on the head, all to his injury.
Lee Hamilton also pled guilty to assaulting the same man by placing him in a headlock at the same location on the same date.
Procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie said Lee Hamilton had been visiting the complainer at a social gathering, with alcohol being consumed.
An argument developed between the complainer and another person and Lee Hamilton intervened in an attempt to break it up, but he got involved in a struggle.
Lee Hamilton then called on his brother Drew to come to the house and they both set upon the complainer, who suffered a cut lip.
Lee Hamilton’s defence agent Tommy Allan said the 22 year old wanted to apologise to victim, who was a “good mate of his”.
Drew Hamilton’s defence agent Gregor Kelly said the incident happened during a visit from his client’s brother from Orkney, and he added that Hamilton was doing well with the Shetland Community Bike Project and had been on the right track.
Sheriff Ian Cruickshank also fined Lee Hamilton £75 and noted: “Mr Kelly is correct when he said you’ve not been a good influence on each other.”
