News / Postman charged over alleged withheld deliveries
A LOCAL postman has been charged after mail was allegedly withheld from delivery.
A spokeswoman for the Royal Mail confirmed that a member of staff has been suspended as investigations continue.
Police said a 28 year old is expected to appear at Lerwick Sheriff Court in due course.
A spokeswoman for Royal Mail said it takes a “zero tolerance approach” to dishonesty.
“It is a criminal offence to tamper with or delay the delivery of mail,” she said.
“Royal Mail will always seek to prosecute the tiny minority of people who abuse their position of trust and will be doing so in this case.
“While we cannot comment on the detail of individual disciplinary cases, we can confirm that the postman in question is suspended while our investigation along with the police investigation continue.”
