SHETLAND Amenity Trust has launched its search for a new chief executive as it prepares to embark on a “new era”.
The role, which is effectively the same as the previous general manager’s post, has been filled on an acting basis by former Promote Shetland boss Andy Steven since the long-serving Jimmy Moncrieff passed away last year.
The position has a salary of £55,000 to £65,000 and its job advert – which notes a closing date of 5 February – described it as a “varied, exciting and challenging” role.
The search comes with the amenity trust in the midst of cost-cutting measures which has already seen a number of staff lose their jobs.
Chairwoman Ruth Mackenzie said the job title has been changed from general manager to chief executive to symbolise the trust’s fresh start.
“We clearly want somebody who’s got a commitment and an interest in Shetland and in particular the work of the amenity trust and will be able to move us forward in these challenging times,” she said.
“We’re after people who have got experience in a wide range of fields. We’re very much hoping that we will get a strong response and have a good selection of candidates to choose from.”
She said the changing of the job title marks a “new era” for the trust, but “it’s very much the same sort of role”.
Trustees are due to hold a “strategy day” next week to consider their priorities for the next year as the organisation continues to reshape.
“I think [the job search] is the next key piece of work that we need to do,” Mackenzie said.
“We still have to consider where we’re going to go in the future, but hopefully we’ll get somebody on board who’ll be able to help us move in that direction.”
