News / SIC closes all schools due to stormy forecast
ALL SCHOOLS and nurseries in Shetland will close at lunchtime on Thursday ahead of storm force winds forecast to hit the islands over the next few days.
A spokesman for Shetland Islands Council said on Wednesday evening that schools would also be closed on Friday due to the added risk of snow and ice.
“Strong winds with gusts of up to 90mph – Storm Caroline – are expected across Shetland on Thursday afternoon,” the spokesman said.
“These strong winds are forecast to continue to into Friday, with an added risk of snow and ice, which is expected to cause travel disruption.”
Shetland College and the NAFC Marine Centre will make a decision on whether to close the colleges on Thursday morning.
