News / Water mains burst at South Road

UP TO 500 Scottish Water customers in Lerwick had their supply affected on Monday afternoon after a mains pipe burst near the Sound Service Station on South Road.

Scottish Water confirmed on Tuesday morning that repairs had been carried out on the problem after water flooded the road.

Temporary traffic lights were put in place but the road has since been reopened.

A spokesman said: “The burst was isolated and alternative supplies through backfeeds, put in place for those customers who had a disruption to supply.

“Once the evening rush hour was over after 6pm, temporary traffic lights were put in place and a full repair carried out and normal supply restored.

“The road has reopened after a temporary reinstatement of the surface was put in place to minimise any disruption to traffic this morning, and a full reinstatement will be carried out as quickly as possible.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused while this repair was carried out and for any disruption caused while the permanent reinstatement is carried out to the public road and pavement.”
