A MAN from Wester Skeld who shouted and swore at an employee in a Lerwick bank has been placed under supervision and given a curfew.
Darren Gray, of Grindibrek, previously admitted shouting, swearing and behaving aggressively at the RBS branch on 24 July.
Procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie previously told Lerwick Sheriff Court that the 29 year old attended the bank purely to confront the female.
He said Gray had “some perceived aggrievance against her husband”, which defence agent Tommy Allan said stemmed from his client’s brother receiving a broken ankle in a physical altercation at a local regatta.
The solicitor said Gray didn’t know the full details of the incident and had formed an opinion that the woman’s partner was the culprit.
At the court on Tuesday, Allan said his client wished to apologise to the woman and acknowledged that it would have been “scary” for her.
He admitted that social work reports made for “sad reading” in light of his record of drug-related offences.
Allan went on to say that Gray had been “practically awake for the whole week” before the bank offence.
Sheriff Philip Mann said he hoped Gray now realised that his behaviour was “absolutely unacceptable”.
The sheriff said he was prepared to impose a community payback order on Gray despite his history and his record for complying with similar disposals.
As a direct alternative to custody, Gray was placed under supervision for one year and given a six-month curfew which will stop him leaving his house between 7pm and 7am, seven days a week.
Sheriff Mann warned him that if he breaches the order, “you will be the one opening the door to the cell”.
