News / Local apprentices shortlisted for national awards
TWO Shetlanders have been shortlisted for this year’s Scottish Apprenticeship Awards.
Horticulture modern apprentice Kurt Crow is up for the level two apprentice of the year award.
The 18 year old Scalloway resident works at Plantiecrub in Tingwall and he is currently on the third year of his apprenticeship.
He said his training has helped him to become more comfortable with customer service.
Eighteen year old Shane Odie, who works for Ocean Kinetics, is nominated in the foundation apprentice of the year category.
He learned about “pneumatics, hydraulics, welding, the use of lathes and electrical principles as well as maths” in his engineering training.
Odie, who is from Lerwick, did work experience at Ocean Kinetics before being offered a level three modern apprenticeship.
This year’s Skills Development Scotland apprentice awards will take place at the Kelvingrove Museum and Art Gallery in Glasgow on 16 November.
