News / Jail for drink driving
A TWENTY eight year old man from County Durham was sent to prison for seven months on Wednesday after having been caught drink driving three times in a matter of months.
Harley Goundry pled guilty at Lerwick Sheriff Court in August to driving a car on the B9074 in Scalloway on 23 April while four and half times the legal limit.
The court heard that Goundry, of Granville Terrace, Binchester, Bishop Auckland, had accumulated three drink driving offences within months.
Pleading for leniency at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Wednesday, defence solicitor Tommy Allan said his client’s issues were more with alcohol use than that of criminal behaviour.
However, sheriff Philip Mann said that two previous convictions for drink driving made a custodial sentence inevitable.
Goundry was also disqualified from driving for 10 years.
MEANWHILE, forty eight year old Tanya Cushnie, of Leaside, Mossbank, was disqualified from driving for14 months after admitting to be more than twice the legal limit for alcohol when police stopped her near her home in the early hours of 17 September.
Cushnie was also fined £500. She can reduce the period of disqualification by three months if she successfully completes drink driving rehabilitation course.
