Letters / Godless panic
In the past week or so there appears to have been a godless panic regarding the size of the proposed electricity cable connection to Shetland.
Councillor Cooper had some strong views on the subject – strangely omitting to say that he was a former director of the Viking Energy wind farm.
Former councillor Drew Ratter’s article in the Scotsman lauding the need for a bigger cable made no mention of the fact that he was the Viking Energy chairman and was part signatory to the Busta partnership agreement in 2007.
This was flaunted as a ‘community project’ yet the community has never been privy to the contents of this document.
Our MP Alistair Carmichael is of course delighted to support anything to do with wind farms in Shetland. He has never had any interest in the legitimate concerns of his constituents who will be adversely affected.
Lastly we have the now ‘Lord’ Duncan hopping on the bandwagon (Minister back larger interconnector calls, SN, 22/09/2017). In his previous incarnation as an MEP he was desperate to fill the North Sea with electric cables importing and exporting power from various countries – obviously his views are very selective.
As one of the most influential former MEP’s on energy policy it is staggering to see he is not more clued up on the environmental destruction that any wind farms incur.
I sincerely hope whoever makes the final decision on the cable will have a bit more ‘midder wit’ than the comics who pretend to ‘speak on our behalf’.
