News / Milne Cup victory for blues

A TWO-NIL victory over inter county rivals Orkney at Gilbertson Park ensured that Shetland’s footballers reclaimed the Milne Cup on Saturday evening.

First half goals from Sam Maver and James Aitken, who was also named man of the match, were enough to ensure a first victory over Orkney in four attempts.

Orkney had come out on top earlier this summer when the two sides were paired together in the Island Games play-offs in Gotland.

Shetland’s hockey women had earlier in the day taken on their Orkney counterparts in the Lady Hamilton Cup.

They took the lead in the first half, only for the visitors to come back with two second half goals to ensure a 2-1 victory.
