News / Mariner modules gathered dust

THE TWO large heavy lift vessels currently berthed at Lerwick Harbour are having their freight cleaned ahead of installation at the Mariner field to the east of Shetland.

A spokeswoman for owners Statoil told Shetland News that the large modules were being cleaned of dust which had been picked up during the journey from South Korea.

The vessels Mighty Servant 3 and the Forte are only two of a total of four that are carrying parts for the Mariner field development.

The Mariner field is due to start production next year and once fully operational it is expected to produce 55,000 barrels of heavy oil per day.

One interesting detail of the heavy lift ship Mighty Servant 3 is that it sank off Angola while offloading the semi-submersible drilling rig Aleutian Key in December 2006.

The vessel was later salvaged and subsequently returned to service. See photos at: http://gcaptain.com/mighty-servant-3-sinks/
