News / Fun day funding boost for stillbirth charity Sands
THE SHETLAND branch of stillbirth charity Sands raised over £4,000 at a well-attended fun day at Clickimin on Saturday.
Shetland Sands chairwoman Marie Manson, whose little boy was stillborn in 1995, set up the local branch in 2015.
It exists to offer support to bereaved parents following stillbirths and neonatal deaths, and Marie said the money raised – £4,420.84 in total – would allow the charity to continue providing that support.
The main prize, donated by NorthLink Ferries, was won by Linda Sandison from Whalsay.
Marie thanked event sponsors EMN Plant, fishing boats the Adenia and Antares and Aurora Marine, along with Shetland Farm Dairies for donating milk.
She added: “Thanks to everyone who baked, donated raffles, bought raffles, helped on the day and to everyone who came along. Thanks to Robbie Leask and staff at Clickimin Leisure Centre.”
