NOMINATIONS are now open for this year’s Shetland Youth Volunteering Awards.
Anyone can nominate an individual volunteering in the isles aged between Secondary One and 25, while groups and organisations can also be put forward.
Nominations are open until 5pm on 30 June and those interested in taking part can visit the Voluntary Action Shetland (VAS) website or phone 01595 743910 for a form.
Today (1 June) marks the start of national volunteers’ week, which aims to celebrate those helping organisations, groups and causes within in the community.
This year’s local youth volunteering awards are being supported by VAS, Rotary Club of Shetland and BP Sullom Voe.
The 2016 Shetland young volunteer of the year award meanwhile went to Thomas Hawick for his efforts in helping out at Disability Shetland’s Saturday club.
Other winners included RSPB Young Volunteers and the Shetland Junior Netball Association.
