News / RNLI fundraiser reaches northernmost station
ENDURANCE fundraiser Alex Ellis-Roswell, who is walking the entire coastline of Britain and Ireland in support of the RNLI, has completed the first 1,000 days of his epic journey.
Reaching the most northerly lifeboat station in Aith on Wednesday, the 24 year old from Margate, in Kent, is well on target to raise £50,000 for the charity that saves lives at sea.
After visits to the local junior high school and an obligatory fish supper at an award winning chippie in Brae, Alex was taken for a spin on the Aith lifeboat on Wednesday evening (see video).
The charity walker has so far completed 7,500 miles by walking the west coast of England, Wales, Ireland and now Scotland, visiting every lifeboat station along the way.
After two weeks in Orkney he arrived in Shetland about ten days ago. He visited the Lerwick lifeboat station first and also enjoyed the Shetland Folk Festival before heading to Aith earlier this week.
While in Orkney he managed to raise around £3,000 for the lifeboat stations in Kirkwall, Stromness and Longhope – a sum he hopes he will be able to match during his time in Shetland.
“Walking around Shetland, we hope to raise about the same amount for Lerwick and Aith lifeboat stations,” he said.
“If you don’t see me walking along the roads of Shetland over the next two weeks with my RNLI bucket, you can donate online at www.bt.com/donatetolifeboats
