POLICE have reminded Shetland residents to remain vigilant to the threat of doorstep crime this summer.
It could involve people pretending to be trader or charity collector, or someone offering to do work on gardens or houses.
Officers say the doorstep criminals will often use “distraction techniques or be pushy while speaking to you”.
Police are reminding locals to look for ID on anyone coming to their doorstep or to phone the company they are supposedly representing to check if the person is authentic.
They added that rogue traders usually cold call and will “charge inflated prices for sub-standard or unnecessary work”.
Constable Rachel Branney said: “As we approach the spring and summer, we are urging the public to be vigilant to cold callers offering services and goods for sale.
“Do not feel pressured into making on the spot decisions about goods and services offered for sale. Take your time to check credentials to satisfy yourself that they are a legitimate business with a good reputation.”
Police are asking the public to report any suspicious persons or activity in relation to doorstep crime by calling 101.
