News / Lochside-inspired exhibition
A MIXTURE of paintings, video clips and objects related to the Lochside area of Lerwick is going on show at the Shetland Museum and Archives.
Artists Callum Moncrieff and Jim Thomason – who were brought up in the area – have teamed up for the exhibition Dumping Ground, which will run from 2pm on Saturday to 28 May at Da Gadderie.
Among the 23 framed works will include Moncrieff’s oil paintings which reflect the hills and water adjacent to Lochside, while Thomason has contributed wash-tinted pieces from archived photographs.
There will video projections entitled Jonah and Silverbacks, which are inspired the area’s old military buildings, while a longer clip will explore the “nature of a substantially changed space”.
A number of objects found in the area will also go on show, including discarded mechanical parts.
Moncrieff and Thomason will be present at Da Gadderie on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays between 11.00am and midday during the exhibition.
