Letters / Ferry fares freeze
Unlike residents in some other of Shetland’s island communities Bressay is dependent on its ferry to access vital services and amenities in Lerwick.
This can place an added strain on family finances and make island living cost restrictive for some.
It is imperative that we seek short to medium term solutions to make island life sustainable. I would propose a three-year freeze on Bressay ferry fares to allow families to budget accordingly.
I would also advocate that those producing a letter confirming that they are visiting Lerwick to attend a medical appointment are exempt from the ferry fare. This can be done whilst seeking a long-term solution via a fixed link.
