Letters / Smart readers do not rely on broadband
In relation to your article referring to smart meters on 25 March 2017 (Fuel poverty warning as energy prices rise).
Smart meter data will be sent through a dedicated, secure, communications network which will cover 99.25 per cent of Great Britain, that’s more than broadband or mobile networks. Smart meters do not rely on broadband networks.
The rollout of smart meters means that residents of Shetland can see in near real time how much money they are spending on gas and electricity and in a language we all understand, pounds and pence. Smart meters will also bring an end to estimated bills.
Residents should contact their energy supplier directly to find out about smart meter installations.
