News / Loganair to fly to Fair Isle
LOGANAIR has announced plans to introduce direct flights from Kirkwall to Fair Isle later this year.
It has also unveiled its new online booking system to allow passengers to buy flights from September onwards when the airline exits its franchise with Flybe.
The 35-minute Orkney to Fair Isle route will see flights operate on Mondays and Fridays in September and October, with prices from £39.99 one way.
It will allow passengers from Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Inverness, Manchester and Norwich to connect to Fair Isle.
On Wednesday Loganair launched its new online booking service, while ten staff have been recruited for a new customer contact centre in Glasgow.
The airline has kept to its promise of removing credit charge surcharges previously in place on the Flybe booking system.
Managing director Jonathan Hinkles said the introduction of Loganair’s online reservations system was an “important milestone” in its move to leave the Flybe franchise.
“I’m really proud of our team for the tremendous work that’s gone into achieving the launch of the system, and am delighted to welcome the new customer contact centre advisors to the Loganair family.
“At the same time, we’re demonstrating that we truly are Scotland’s airline by connecting Fair Isle, the country’s most remote island community, to our extensive network.
“Fair Isle is a haven for bird watchers and our service through the autumn migratory season will cut hours from current journey times. It will be possible to leave Manchester or Edinburgh after breakfast and arrive in Fair Isle by lunchtime – quite impossible today.”
For flights up to 31 August, passengers should still use the Flybe online booking system.
