Letters / Not after accolades
I watched the video and read the report about the rescue of five fishermen from the fishing vessel Ocean Way (‘Five fishermen rescued from sinking vessel’, SN 3/3/17).
It struck me how matter of fact the lifeboat coxswain Tarby was when reporting later about the events of the morning – and how these brave rescuers are not after accolades, but just doing what they’re trained for.
The fact they are volunteers, and giving up their own time to take part in these dangerous rescues, is always humbling to me. I could never do, nor ever could have done, what these brave souls do.
It was good to see the rescued men being taken to safety at Lerwick Harbour and get a rare chance to watch the actual rescue. Stunning.
