News / Ten charities to benefit from Sharon’s tenth swap shop

A queue formed outside Aith Hall on Sunday afternoon.

MORE than £6,000 was raised for a range of local and national charities at the tenth anniversary swap shop event in Aith at the weekend.

Organiser Sharon Deyell said she and her team of helpers were overwhelmed by the generosity of local people.

The annual event always attracts hundreds of people keen to replenish their wardrobe by rummaging through piles of unwanted clothes.

The charities benefiting from the Swapshop weekend are: Macmillan Cancer Support, The Archie Foundation, the Scottish Air Ambulance Teddy Bear Fund, Shetland Food Bank, Skeld Play Park, Aith JHS Playground, and Shetland Families Affected by Alcohol and Drugs.

In addition, leftover clothes will be donated to the Shetland Solidarity with Refugees group, Bressay Development Group and the Salvation Army Clothes Bank.

“What a day it was,” Sharon said. “It was wonderful and I just want to say a huge thank you to all our kind-hearted, hard-working helpers, especially the younger members of team swap shop.”
