News / Gales affect ferry timetable

THE DEPARTURE times of Serco NorthLink’s two passenger ferries on Tuesday have been affected by the forecast of strong southerly gales.

The Hrossey’s 7pm northbound sailing from Aberdeen to Lerwick has been delayed until midnight, with the vessel expected to arrive in Shetland in the early afternoon of Wednesday.

The Hjaltland’s 7pm southbound sailing from Lerwick to Aberdeen, meanwhile, has been brought forward to 2pm. Arrival in Aberdeen on Wednesday may be subject to delays.

According to Met Office forecasts, strong southerly winds in the second half could turn to several gales over Shetland by Tuesday night.

Freight vessel the Hildasay is also affected. She will depart from Aberdeen in the late evening or close to midnight and will only go as far as Kirkwall, with the Lerwick stop cancelled.
