SHETLAND Choral Society is inviting Christmas shoppers to call in to a carol singing event at the Islesburgh Community Centre on Saturday afternoon.
The society has traditionally hosted a Christmas concert in St Columba’s Kirk in Lerwick, but it will not take place this year because the choir has not been able to find a new conductor.
Stepping into the breach are the well-known local musicians Mike Blyth, Neil Morris and Nigel Hayward, who have been busy getting the choir into shape over the past few weeks.
A choral society spokeswoman said: “The idea is for it to be less formal than the usual concert, a bit like Sunday Teas with music.
“Guests can come and go as they wish, will be fuelled with coffee (or tea) and cakes at regular intervals, enjoy the music, and will occasionally be invited to join in.”
The repertoire will be repeated half way through the afternoon.
Entry will be £5 for all, and £2 for primary-age children. All proceeds will go to local charities Mind Your Head, Disability Shetland and Shetland Bereavement Support Service.
