News / Funk act returns for UHA hop
SCOTTISH funk band Federation of the Disco Pimp are set to return to Shetland early next year as part of an Up Helly Aa hop night event at Mareel in Lerwick.
The seven-strong group, who have numerous fans in the isles after visiting twice in the last couple of years, will headline the gig on 1 February.
Support on the night will come from genre-juggling local act Big Time Quell and Mixology DJs led by Lyall Halcrow.
Federation of the Disco Pimp, who are based in Glasgow, have been active since 2010 and they concoct a hip-shaking cocktail of funk, disco, psychedelic and jazz.
In 2016 the group won the best live performance prize at the Sunday Herald Cultural Awards, while they also acted as the house band on BBC One’s Commonwealth Games coverage in 2014.
- Early bird tickets for the hop night gig are on sale now via www.shetlandarts.org priced at £20. However, the cost will rise to £25 after 1 January.
