LERWICK’s Town Hall and arts venue Mareel turned their lights red on Thursday to mark World Aids day.

They were among a number of buildings across the world, which changed colour to raise awareness of the condition.

NHS Shetland used the day to remind locals that HIV self-test postal kits are available if they want to test themselves for infection at home.

People can also receive kits through the Terence Higgins Trust, with more information available via its website at www.tht.org.uk/sexual-health/About-HIV/HIV-postal-test

An event meanwhile in support of World Aids Day is being held at Lerwick’s Market House on 13 December from 6pm-8.30pm.

Locals aged between 16 and 25 are invited to attend the evening, which will offer information, chat and food courtesy of Shetland’s Our Peer Education Network.
